Harley Richard Owens
Harley Richard Owens, 74, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at his residence in Indianapolis.
He was born July 1, 1939, in Indianapolis to Martin E. and Eunice Lorraine (Reynolds) Owens.
He married Sherry N. Cress on Nov. 22, 2003. She lovingly survives.
Other survivors include his children, Richard Stephen (Patti) Owens and Angela Dawn (Doug) Heagy; stepchildren, Justin (Stephanie) Longerich, Megan (Tony) Napier, Sheryl (Chris) Stephenson and Jamie (Brad) Gerber; grandchildren, Ryan Owens and Michael Cavanaugh; stepgrandchildren, Baylee and Easton Longerich, Tyler Napier, Austin Gerber and Dylan Wood; brother, Martin E. (Linda) Owens II; and nieces, Kelly Taylor and Nancy Mercer Dunn.
He was preceded in passing by a sister, Carol.
Harley was a graduate of Trafalgar High School, class of 1957, where he was an honor student and excelled in basketball and baseball.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was named to the All-Navy basketball team.
Harley was an independent insurance agent, owning Owens Insurance Agency. He later merged with Charles Green to form Green-Owens Insurance Co.
Harley could frequently be seen at Don & Dona’s restaurant in downtown Franklin. His memberships included the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Hillview Country Club and Franklin Masonic Lodge No. 107.
Tricia Wilson will conduct a celebration of Harley’s life at 11 a.m. Monday at Flinn & Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St. (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
