Betty Jane Gill
Betty Jane (Hommel) Gill, 88, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, in Franklin. She was a resident of Franklin.
Betty was born March 9, 1925, in Needham to Ferd Oscar “Jimmy” and Jenny Lucille (Akers) Hommel.
She graduated from Clark Township High School, class of 1943.
She married Kenneth Gill on Dec. 3, 1944, in Whiteland.
Betty was employed as a seamstress for Varynit Mills and Kajee in Franklin for many years.
She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, cooking and sewing. She loved her grandchildren and family. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her cat, Dollie.
Betty was a lifelong member of the Needham Community Church, and she loved the Lord.
She is survived by five children, John Robert (Rita) Gill of Montana, Judith Delaine (Wayman) Burton of Edinburgh, Thomas Edwin (Joy) Gill of Lapel, Peggy Lorraine (Mark) Waltz of Franklin, and Cynthia Gayle (David) Muse of Needham; two cousins, Max Fitzpatrick and Leelah Williams; 16 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant brother, John Robert Hommel; and a grandson.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Jessen Funeral Home, Franklin Chapel, 197 E. Jefferson St. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Second Mount Pleasant Cemetery near Franklin.
