Hubert ‘Bob’ Summers

Hubert “Bob” Summers, 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Morgantown on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013.

Bob was born Dec. 9, 1922, in Casey County, Ky., to the late William Richard and Vergie Francis (Whethington) Summers.

He married Frankie June (Lothery) Summers on Nov. 12, 1954, in New Albany. She preceded him in death on June 30, 1999, after nearly 45 years.

He married Lucy Alma (Byus) Summers on Jan. 13, 2000, in Franklin. She survives in Greenwood.

Bob retired as a truck driver from Dohrn Trucking in Indianapolis in 1979. He was a farmer, raising tomatoes, which he sold to the Red Gold Canning Factory in Trafalgar.

Bob enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He enjoyed playing and singing with the Blue Grass Gospel Four group and also playing and singing in church and with friends.

Bob also is survived by three sons, Dayton (Charmaine) Summers of North Clarendon, Vt., James (Renae) Summers of Columbus and Travis (Lou) Summers of Morgantown; three daughters, Letia (Jack) Mason of Franklin, Betty (Paul) Haney of Springhill, Fla., and Brenda Gater of Sellersburg; two stepsons, Jim (Barbara) Lothery of Sellersburg and Robert (Elizabeth) McLaughlin of Greenwood; two brothers, Martin (Catherine) Summers of Pittsboro and George Summers of Rockford, Ill.; 17 grandchildren and stepgrandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Eldia Owensby; one son, Richard Allen Summers; one grandson, Greg Mason; one sister, Christine Miller; and one brother, Francis Summers.

The Revs. Rick Owensby and Sim Brock will conduct a funeral service at 10 a.m. Saturday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home, Cremation and Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St., Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Borden.
