Velma Burton, 86, of Edinburgh, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at her daughter’s residence in Edinburgh.
She was born Aug. 26, 1927, in Adair County, Ky., to the late Odis and Ollie M. (Corbin) Cowan.
She married Malcom Burton on Sept. 18, 1944. He died March 21, 2003.
Survivors include five children, Gerald Burton of Franklin, Darrell (Norma) Burton, Malcom “Shorty” (Vicki) Burton and Linda K. (Ronnie) Estes, all of Edinburgh, and Jeanette (Wallace) Adams of Trafalgar; three siblings, Fayette “Dick” Cowan and Clifford (Diana) Cowan, both of Edinburgh, and Delia Kirkland of Clemson, S.C.; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Donald and Howard Cowan.
She was a member of Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church and Nineveh Senior Citizens.
She enjoyed quilting, outside activities and singing with her brother.
A funeral service will be at
2 p.m. Thursday at Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church, 905 S. Main St., with the Rev. Guy Hardin officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 1 p.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.
