Richard J. Winn
Richard J. Winn, 66, of Bargersville, passed away Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born July 4, 1947, in Wheeling, W. Va., to William A. Winn and Eleanor (Husvar) Winn.
He married Christine M. (Soberg) Winn on April 2, 1971, in Portage, and she survives.
He had been a supervisor for U.S. Steel in Gary.
He was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Vietnam War.
He was a member of Wheatfield Masonic Lodge No. 642 where he has served as past master; South Bend Valley of the Scottish Rite; Hindu Shrine Temple of Michiana in South Bend; and of the Marine Corps League in Valparaiso.
He loved fishing and drag car racing. He also enjoyed War Commander on Facebook.
Survivors include his wife, Christine M. (Soberg) Winn of Bargersville; son, Rich W. (Katie) Winn of Indianapolis and daughter, Tammi R. (Tony) McCabe of Carmel; brothers, William T. Winn of Valparaiso, Olsen (Cassy) Soberg of Portage and Donny (Heidi) Soberg of Kouts, sisters, Mary Jane (Doyle-deceased) Hall of Portland, Doris Levenduski of LaPorte, Debra (George) Brockway-Burns of Valparaiso, Arlene (Coy) Gilland of Madison, Tenn., and Donna (Mark) Kitchen of Portage; four grandchildren, Meghan Buchanan, Levi McCabe, Sara Buchanan and Emmelyn Rose Winn; and several nieces and nephews (you know who you are).
Wheatfield Masonic Lodge 642 will conduct a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Saturday at Boersma Funeral Home, 90 E. Grove St., Wheatfield, with a memorial service immediately following conducted by the Rev. Father Bruce Pawlak. Full military honors will conclude the service. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. Saturday till service time at the funeral home. He will eventually be laid to rest in the Smokey Mountains.
The family request memorial contributions be made to the ALS Indiana Chapter, 6525 E. 82nd St., Suite 115, Indianapolis, IN 46250.
Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 S. U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, is handling the arrangements.
