Lena Kathryn Carter

Lena Kathryn (Haycraft) Carter, 81, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Indianapolis and a former resident of Almo, Ky.

She was born Jan. 19, 1932, in Litchfield, Ky. Her parents were Jess and Cora (Blankenship) Haycraft. She married Roy C. Carter on July 26, 1959.

Survivors include children, Vickie Armes, Calvin Clemons, Brian Carter, Bruce Carter, Sheila Birk, Lavonda Ford, Roy C. Carter and adopted son Jamie Watkins; 21 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Corine Dyer; and brother-in-law, Julian Carter.

She was preceded in passing by her parents; her husband, Roy Carter; daughter, Pamela Armes; son, Curtis Dale Carter; grandson, Howard Jeffrey Armes; great-granddaughter, Coralena Black; half sisters, Gladys Morrison and Athlene Fentress; and half brother, Earl Haycraft.

Lena was a homemaker and later worked for the Salvation Army.

She was a member of Penecostal Church of Promise, which she enjoyed very much, and her neighborhood crime watch when she lived in Indianapolis.

Lena very much enjoyed shopping and gardening. She enjoyed her nighttime drives with her son, Chris. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Flinn & Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St. (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
