JoAnne Hatfield Pfeifer
JoAnne Hatfield Pfeifer, 86, passed away Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at Kindred Transitional Care of Greenwood.
She was born in New Castle on Dec. 2, 1926, to Ralph and Pearl (Smith) Hatfield.
She married Frank E. Pfeifer in 1950 and resided with him in Mount Pleasant, Pa., until 2004, when they moved to Indianapolis to be closer to family.
Joanne was a loving mother to two daughters, Judy (Fred) Shockley and Suzan (the Rev. Dr. William) Weaver. She also is survived by her grandchildren, Michael (Julie) Shockley, Lauren (Meredith) Shockley-Smith, Janelle (Mark) Foster and Patrick (Gira) Weaver. She was the proud great-grandmother of June Shockley, Saige and Amira Shockley-Smith, and Samantha and Charlize Foster.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, Keith Hatfield.
JoAnne was a member of Mount Auburn United Methodist Church in Greenwood and enjoyed being there on Sundays with her family and friends.
She will be remembered for her dedication to helping others as a Girl Scout leader, Helping Hands hotline operator, sewing regularly for family and friends and seeking opportunities to volunteer throughout her life.
In accordance with her final wishes to help others, she willed her body to the Indiana University Medical Center.
A celebration of life service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the main dining room of Kindred Transitional Care of Greenwood, 377 Westridge Blvd.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Auburn United Methodist Church, 3100 W. Stones Crossing Road, Greenwood, IN 46143, to support the Prayer Shawl and Piecemakers quilting group.
