George Thomas Miller
George Thomas Miller, 76, passed away Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, in Franklin. He was a resident of Franklin.
He was born July 21, 1937, in East St. Louis, Ill., to Harry Edward Miller Sr. and Juanita (Randolph) Miller.
He married Jeroma (McIntosh) Miller on May 3, 1969. She lovingly survives in Franklin.
Other survivors include five children, Anita Miller and Dianna (Christopher) Wilson, both of Indianapolis, Rebecca (Michael) Lett of Pendleton, George Randolph (Alicia) Miller of Greenwood and Thomas Anthony (Holly) Miller of Bargersville; grandchildren, Joshua Lett, Paul Miller, Grace Wilson, Jayce Miller, Jacob Miller and an unborn grandson, Vincent George Miller, who is due in December; one great-grandson, Zachariah Keagan Lett; one brother, Harry E. (Lucy Grace) Miller Jr.; and one sister, Joan F. Harrison.
He was preceded in passing by his parents; a grandson, Zachariah Lett; and three siblings, Bobby and Charles Dennis Miller and Mary Alice Conner.
George was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was retired as a lieutenant with the Indianapolis Fire Department. He also was employed as a lithographer in graphic design.
He was raised in the Catholic faith and attended Amity Baptist Church near Franklin.
George played the harmonica and enjoyed playing with fellow firefighters with the department at their annual fundraiser for muscular dystrophy each year. He also enjoyed playing music with his family.
George responded to the first 911 call ever of Marion County in Indianapolis and is in the Red Cross Hall of Fame.
He enjoyed I.U. basketball and the Indianapolis Colts. He looked forward to and enjoyed playing Monday golf with his friends at Cypress Hill in Franklin. He loved nature and enjoyed fishing and bird watching.
Of all things he enjoyed, George’s biggest enjoyment was spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
A celebration of George’s life will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at Flinn & Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St. (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Youngs Creek Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by Franklin American Legion Post 205.
