Raymond F. Koons, 69, passed away Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, in Greenwood. He was a resident of Greenwood.
Ray was born Dec. 5, 1943, in Denver. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
He was employed with Dover Elevators and a member International Union of Elevator Constructors Local 34 as an elevator mechanic for 34 years, retiring in 2000.
Ray enjoyed camping and being outdoors. He could fix anything back to working order.
He was a member of Southport Presbyterian Church, where he was a very active member.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra (Shircliff) Koons of Greenwood; four children, Raymond J. (Kathleen) Koons of Indianapolis, Rodney E. (Mitzi) Koons of Mooresville, Karena K. Turner of Greenwood and Jeffery A. (Tonja) Koons of North Carolina; three brothers, David, Jerry and Dennis Koons, all of Indianapolis; a stepbrother, Tom Donahue of Indianapolis; his stepmother, Julie Koons of Indianapolis; eight grandchildren, Danielle Camacho, Joshua, Nathan, Jared and Andrew Turner, Brandon and Elly Mae Koons, and Allen Hazen; and two great-
grandchildren, Raelynn and Landon Camacho.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph E. Koons; his mother, Mary L. (Glidden) Fleener; a brother, Mike Koons; and two infant sons, Randy and Gordon Koons.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, 729 U.S. 31 North. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Gardens at Olive Branch Cemetery in Greenwood.
