Clyde Leonard “C.L.” Poynter Jr.
Clyde Leonard “C.L.” Poynter Jr., 83, passed away Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at the Franklin United Methodist Community in Franklin. He was a resident of Franklin.
He was born Sept. 7, 1929, in Hart County, Ky., to Clyde Leonard and Ollie Obe (Adams) Poynter.
He married Mae Rose Phares on May 20, 1949. She lovingly survives.
Other survivors include five children, Patrick L. (Alice) Poynter, Janis A. (Bruce) Kittle and Rachel L. (Mike) Picklesimer, all of Franklin, and Melinda S. (Ed) Shaw and Sarah A. Poynter, both of Greenwood; a brother, Donald Poynter of Whiteland; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren, the youngest being born on Aug. 30.
He was preceded in passing by his parents; a brother, Harold Poynter; and three sisters, Bette Lee Poynter, Virginia Johns and Thelma Johnson.
He was a 1948 graduate of Whiteland High School.
C.L. was the manager of Farm Bureau Co-op in Greenwood for 16 years. He then transferred to Franklin. He retired in 1994.
He was a member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church for 61 years, serving as a deacon, trustee, elder and loyal member of the Fidelis Class; and Union Village Masonic Lodge No. 545 in Providence for more than 44 years.
C.L. was a woodworker, having made rockers for all of the grandchildren and various other projects for his children.
The Revs. Brad Moger and David Lee and Pastor Bruce Kittle will conduct a celebration of life service at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hopewell Presbyterian Church, 677 W. State Road 144, Franklin. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Flinn & Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St., Franklin, and from
10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery near Franklin.
