Wilma Irene Oakes, 88, died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at the Franklin United Methodist Community. She was a resident of Edinburgh.
She was born Nov. 4, 1924, to the late Forest B. and Mamie (Wright) Oakes.
Survivors include a son, Forest “Jack” (Terri) Chastain of Franklin; a grandson, Brian (Kelly) Chastain of Franklin; and two nieces, Brenda J. Gosch and Theresa (Stephen) Thomas, both of Edinburgh.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Rubie M. Gosch; and a niece, Paula Ann Gosch.
She was a 1942 graduate of Edinburgh High School. She retired from American States Insurance Co. in Columbus and had worked for Edinburgh Insurance agency.
She was a pianist and organist for 60 years at Old Union United Church of Christ. She enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles and traveling to North Carolina to visit friends.
The Rev. J. Kirby Rupp will conduct a graveside service at
10:30 a.m. Friday at Old Union Cemetery in Edinburgh.
