Dennis E. Purkhiser
Dennis E. Purkhiser, 69, of Morgantown, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013.
He was born April 24, 1944, in Beech Grove, to George E. and Wilma J. (Sparks) Purkhiser.
Dennis was an electrician at Indianapolis Power and Light for 15 years, retiring in 1981. He was an avid mushroom hunter, fisherman and was a faithful member of the Purple Martin Association. He adored his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dennis married the love of his life, the former Linda Lacefield, on Aug. 22, 1962, in Ohio Co., Ky., and she survives him along with their children, Crystal Painter, Beth (Jim) Hamm, Mitch (Kim) Purkhiser and Rachel (Kevin) Pool; brothers, Jerry (Joyce) Purkhiser, Perry Purkhiser; sisters, Judy (Phil) Sims and Bonnie (Lewis) Jones; half brother, Russell Wetzel; stepbrothers, George (Diane) Wetzel, Charles Wetzel, Devon Wetzel; stepsisters, Joanne Isom and Treva Wetzel; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Noah Purkhiser; sister, Carolyn Stickles; and half brother, Bob Wetzel.
A funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Morgantown. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until time of service Sunday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016.
