Kathy Lynn Hynds
Kathy Lynn Hynds, 67, of Columbus, died at 9:47 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
She was born June 16, 1946, in Columbus, the daughter of Pete and Mary Jean Hickey Harrell.
Kathy was a 1964 graduate of Columbus High School and a 1968 graduate of Butler University, with a major in music.
She loved playing and listening to classical music and played trumpet for the Columbus Brass Quintet for several years.
Kathy was a former elementary music teacher, an employee of IUPUC, the Indianapolis Star, the Van Valer law firm in Greenwood and most recently as a legal assistant for the Sharpnack, Bigley, Stroh and Washburn law firm in Columbus.
She and her husband lived for two years in Sarasota, Fla., where she worked as an administrative assistant at the Ringling Museum of Art.
She married Bob Hynds on July 23, 1994, in Gatlinburg, Tenn.
She is survived by her husband of Columbus; two sons, Michael P. (J.J.) DeArmitt of Edinburgh and Joshua C. DeArmitt of Franklin; a stepdaughter, Kelly (Joe) Brougher of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Logan, Christian and Jonah DeArmitt of Edinburgh, Abby and Noah DeArmitt of Franklin, and Blair, Logan and Luke Brougher of Indianapolis; two brothers, Timothy Wayne (Debbie) Harrell and Patrick Clifford (Lisa) Harrell, both of Greenwood; two sisters, LuAnn (Dennis) Craft of Wabash and Paula (Jim) Sachleben of Columbus; and two aunts, Wilma Huffman of Columbus and Helen Harrell of LaFountain.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a stepdaughter, Kerry Hynds.
Public visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at Myers-Reed Chapel, 3729 25th St., Columbus. A private funeral service will be conducted Friday at the funeral home, with Justin White officiating. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus.
