William Elbert “Bill” Combs Jr., 85, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013. He was a resident of Greenwood.

Bill was born Sept. 29, 1927, in Pryorsburg, Ky., to the late William Elbert and Bonnie Fern Combs.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Vera Jean (Gammon); and a son, William “Dirk” Combs.

Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps.

He was employed with Indiana Bell/Yellow Pages as a salesman for 33 years.

Bill enjoyed watching activities that involved his children and grandchildren, traveling and watching sports.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret; two brothers, Keith Allen (Wilma) and Harvey Gene (Debbie); two daughters, Lisa (William) Rogers and Tracie (Wendell) Brown; a stepdaughter, Judy Hacker; a stepson, Edward Hacker; and grandchildren, Amber Combs, Zachary Combs, Elizabeth “Libby” Rogers, Courtney Hacker, William Hacker, Patrick Hacker, Zach Brown and Hayley Brown.

Bill had requested a private family memorial.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Diabetes Association.

The Neptune Society is handling arrangements.
