Ella Mae Risner, 97, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2013, in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Indianapolis.
She was born Dec. 29, 1915, in Wayne County, Ky., to Dexter and Celia Elizabeth (Slagle) Parmley.
She married Ralph D. Risner on Oct. 12, 1942, in Bowling Green, Ky. He preceded her in death Nov. 27, 1985.
Ella was a graduate of Somerset High School and attended Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. She graduated from University of Central Arkansas in Conway, Ark., with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education.
She taught 11 years in Quitman, Ark., and 10 years in Morristown, Ind., retiring in 1981.
She was a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association and Arkansas Retired Teachers Association. She was also a member of the Quitman United Methodist Church.
Her many interests in life included traveling, needlework, vegetable and flower gardening, and cooking for family and friends. She also enjoyed being both a 4-H and Girl Scout leader for many years.
Ella is survived by daughters, Pam McDonald of Indianapolis and Sharon (Kevin) Beals of Bargersville. She is also survived by a grandson, Judson (Tiffany Kaeser) Zeigler of Whiteland; a granddaughter Amanda (Ben) Mowery of Indianapolis; and one great-granddaughter, Ella Mae Mowery. Other survivors include brothers, Herschel Parmley of Canada and Charles (Pat) Parmley of Somerset, Ky.; and sisters, Stella Parmley of Rushville and Maysie Weaver of Somerset, Ky.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ella was preceded in death by an infant sister, Betty Jean Parmley; a sister, Marjorie Gahimer; and a sister-in-law, Vera Parmley.
There will be a private service in Monticello, Ky. There will be no visitation.
Arrangements are being handled by Hickey & Son Funeral Home in Monticello, Ky.
