Roger K. Sanders

Roger K. Sanders, 71, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. He was a lifelong resident of Morgantown.

Roger was born Dec. 4, 1941, in Morgantown to the late Maurice and Doris (Hall) Sanders.

He was a 1960 graduate of Morgantown High School and worked his entire life as a farmer. He worked farms in Owen, Johnson and Morgan counties, as well as his own family farm, where he raised cattle, hogs and crops. He cherished the time spent working with his mother in their vegetable garden.

Roger was known for his storytelling and laughter. He loved visiting with friends and family and had a knack for showing up at their homes right at dinner time for a good home-cooked meal. He traveled around the county looking at others’ crops and giving his opinion to them on how they were doing.

Roger enjoyed riding horses and mushroom hunting.

Roger was a member of the Morgantown Masonic Lodge No. 358 and the Scottish Rite in Indianapolis, Morgan County Beef & Dairy Association and the Mount Carmel Christian Church in Trafalgar.

Having no children of his own, Roger enjoyed the closeness of his good friends, Bobby Clay of Oklahoma, Brad Hamilton of Martinsville and Janet and Kenny Haste of Trafalgar.

He is survived by several cousins and an aunt, Louise Cooper of Greenwood.

The Rev. Cleon Wright will conduct a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home, Cremation and Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St. in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be conducted by the Morgantown Masonic Lodge at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
