Evangeline M. Sanford
Evangeline M. Sanford, 98, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2013, at the Franklin United Methodist Community. She was a lifelong resident of Franklin.
Evangeline was born Sept. 14, 1914, in Franklin, to Noble G. and Emma M. (Conner) Sanford.
She was employed with G.C. Murphy five-and-dime store in Franklin and with Capital Finance, Blue Grass Finance and Ralph Davis C.P.A. accounting/tax preparations for 20 years. She then worked at the Lord’s Cupboard in Franklin.
She became a member of First Baptist Church in Franklin in 1927, where she sang in the choir with her sisters and later taught Sunday school.
Evangeline was a member of the Sunshine Club and the Franklin Women’s Business and Professional Club for 53 years.
She enjoyed garage sales, reading, poetry, sewing, quilting, knitting and playing the piano. Evangeline loved spending time with her family and taking care of her nieces and nephews.
She is survived by a sister, Frances Ramsey of Franklin; a niece, Shirley K. Roberts of New Whiteland; a nephew, Ronald Lee Van Sickle of Florida; two great-nephews; and several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Harold E. Sanford; and sister, Dorothy VanSickle.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Jessen Funeral Home, Franklin Chapel, 197 E. Jefferson St. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
