William D. ‘Buck’ Austin
William D. “Buck” Austin, 86, of Martinsville, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2013, at The Gathering Together in Plainfield.
He was born May 8, 1927, in Scottsville, Ky., to William Lucian Austin and Ina Vivian (Sullivan) Austin.
He was an assembler for General Motors’ bus and truck group in Indianapolis for more than 30 years. He was a member of the United Auto Workers union.
He was a godly man, and a caring, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed his Kentucky home.
He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran.
He also enjoyed tinkering with old cars.
Survivors include two daughters, Lisa (Robert) Young of Martinsville and Donna Graham of Greenwood; five grandchildren, Starr Young Meiring, R. Travis Young and Angel Young, all of Martinsville, Justin Graham of Pendleton and Lindsey Graham of Greenwood; two great-grandchildren, Madison Meiring and Taylor Meiring; and a sister, Bell Nicely of Scottsville, Ky.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings.
The Rev. Larry McAdams will conduct a graveside service at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, with military honors to follow.
Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center in Franklin is handling arrangements.
