Margaret J. Gardner DeVries
Margaret J. Gardner DeVries, 91, passed on to heaven at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at Whitlock House Assisted Living in Crawfordsville.
She was born July 14, 1921, to James and Maggie Bell Hougland Gardner in Scottsburg. She graduated from Scottsburg High School and a business school.
She was a homemaker and retired from Sears and Roselyn Bakery.
On Oct. 27, 1947, Margaret married John William DeVries, who died Nov. 30, 1989.
She lived in their Whiteland home for 54 years and was a member of Honey Creek United Methodist Church, Ladies Aid and a home economics club.
She is survived by two daughters, Martie (Steve) Akers and Mary (Gary) Hess; a son, Bill (Carrie) DeVries; grandchildren, Zach (Stephanie) Akers, Katie (Clay) Gullatt and Erin (Aaron) Doran; and great-grandchildren, Faith and Lili Akers, Jaxon and future baby Gullatt, Connor and Cooper Doran, and Bailey McMahan.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a grandson, Josh Akers; and a very dear sister and brother-in-law, Harold and Alma Gray.
She will always be remembered for her sweet disposition and her desire to please everyone around her.
Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home, 107 N. Grant Ave., Crawfordsville, with the Rev. Isaac Zull officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Scottsburg Cemetery in Scottsburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Crawfordsville, in care of the funeral home.
