The Rev. Robert J. “Bob” Hazelgrove

The Rev. Robert J. “Bob” Hazelgrove, 85, was called home to his savior on Monday, June 10, 2013, at the Franklin United Methodist Community. He was a resident of Trafalgar in northern Brown County.

Bob was born in Wolcott on June 19, 1927, to his parents, the late James R. and Matilda H. (Anker) Hazelgrove. He was a 1945 graduate of Avon High School and a 1995 graduate of the Free Gospel Bible Institution in Export, Pa.

Bob proudly served his country as a tech corporal for the U.S. Army during World War II.

He married Dorine Towell on June 20, 1945, in Plainfield. Dorine preceded him in death on March 4, 2012, after 66 loving years.

Bob retired as a railroad conductor for the United Transportation Union. After retirement, he went to work at the Franklin Walmart, helping customers in the garden center and hardware department.

Bob was a trustee and 50-year member of Locust Grove Pentecostal Church and American Legion Post 13, both of Brown County.

He was an ordained minister.

Bob was past president of the farmers market in Nashville and a Brown County 4-H leader. He also was a member of Hickory Ridge Senior Center in Brown County.

He loved reading his Bible and spending time with his family and working in his garden.

Bob is survived by his loving children, James Robert Hazelgrove of Brown County, Gloria J. Thompson of Lily, Ky., Ronald E. (Patty) Hazelgrove of Edinburgh, and Arline Hazelgrove, David L. (Sandy) Hazelgrove and Jeffery L. (Angie) Hazelgrove, all of Brown County. He will be remembered by his sister, Judith Ann (Kelso) Wessel of London, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by a grandson, Chief Warrant Officer Brian Hazelgrove, who died while serving his country in Iraq; one brother, Donald E. Hazelgrove; and one son-in-law, Charlie Thompson.

The Rev. Jay Griffie will conduct a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home, Cremation and Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St. in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown, with military rites presented by the Brown County Honor Guard.
