Anabel Howard, 80, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 8, 2013, in Franklin. She was a resident of Franklin.
She was born on May 22, 1933, in Terre Haute to Claude and Mildred (Clapp) Huggins.
Anabel married Walter L. Howard on April 3, 1955. He lovingly survives in Franklin.
She also is survived by four children, Beverly Reidy and husband Rick of Hau’ula, Hawaii, Lou Anne Hunt of Vincennes, Walter Daniel “Dan” Howard and wife Pam of Franklin and Sarah Shea and husband Tom of Safety Harbor, Fla.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Martha Howard of Danville, Ill.
She was preceded in passing by her parents; granddaughter, Brittany Howard; and six siblings, David, Charles, Robert, Ted and Richard Huggins and Virginia Read.
Anabel was a 1951 graduate of Glenn High School in Terre Haute. She received her bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University in 1955. She later received her master’s degree from Ball State University in 1970.
Anabel was an elementary school teacher for 40 years, with the last 20 years at East Side Elementary School in Edinburgh. She retired in June 1998.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Greenwood.
She was involved with the Hilltopper senior citizen group at church and attended Bible study fellowship for eight years. She was active in the Matinee Musicale.
She was a member of the Indiana State Teachers Association and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association. She was also a member of the Franklin Kiwanis for many years and the Franklin Chapter No. 439, Order of the Eastern Star.
The Rev. David Tripp will conduct a service at 10 a.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church, 200 Sunset Blvd., Greenwood. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Flinn & Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St. (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
