Ernest H. ‘Ernie’ Loop
Ernest H. “Ernie” Loop, 65, passed away all too suddenly Tuesday afternoon, May 21, 2013. He was a lifelong resident of Morgantown.
Ernie was born in Morgantown on Dec. 1, 1947, to his parents, the late Lewis N. and Wilma E. (Baute) Loop.
He was a 1966 graduate of Morgantown High School. After high school, he went on to serve as a specialist IV with the U.S. Army. Ernie was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service and a Purple Heart Medal for his service during the Vietnam War.
After serving his country, he married Martha A. “Marty” Fulford on July 23, 1976, in Morgantown. She lovingly survives after 36 years of marriage.
Ernie also is survived by his daughter, Cori J. (Dan) Downen of Greenwood; and two grandsons, Jonah Zachary Downen and Blake Thomas Downen, both of Greenwood. He will be remembered by his brother, Gary Loop of Columbus.
Ernie retired in 2005 as a fork lift operator for Reliance Electric Co. in Columbus after 35 years of service.
He was a member of the Martinsville American Legion.
Ernie cherished the time spent with his two grandsons.
He enjoyed gardening, working outdoors and woodworking.
Ernie was a fan of game shows, with “Wheel of Fortune” as his favorite. He also enjoyed listening to country music.
The Rev. Burt Brock will conduct a funeral service 7 p.m. Friday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home, Cremation and Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St., Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. Military rites will be presented by the Martinsville American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars honor guards.
In lieu of flowers, the family strongly suggests memorial contributions to the American Lung Association, 115 W. Washington St., Suite 1180 South, Indianapolis, IN 46204, in honor of Ernie.
