Mary Jo Mozingo, 88, of Greenwood, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at her residence.
On June 19, 1924, Mary Jo was born to Moses C. and Lucile A. (Sturdevant) Pruitt in Connersville. She graduated from Franklin College in 1945 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology, magna cum laude, then earned her master’s degree in social services from Indiana University in 1964.
She was married to Byron J. Mozingo on Oct. 5, 1946.
Mary worked as the director for Shelby County Department of Public Welfare; as executive director for the Suemma Coleman Agency in Indianapolis and the Johnson County Youth Services Bureau (now Youth Connections); and as the child welfare supervisor for the Office of Family and Children at the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration.
She was a licensed clinical social worker.
Mary Jo was a very active member of the community. Her memberships included First Presbyterian Church in Greenwood, where she served as an elder; National Association of Social Workers; Academy of Certified Social Workers; Tri Kappa; Charlotte Emerson Club; Pi Beta Phi Alumnae Club in Franklin; the board of trustees with Valle Vista Hospital; the Society of Indiana Pioneers; and Historic Landmarks of Indiana.
Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a son, Todd R. Mozingo.
She is survived by cousins and friends.
Funeral services were private.
Arrangements were entrusted to Wilson St .Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, 481 W. Main St.
