Mark A. West

Mark A. West, 67, of Franklin, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at Manor Care South in Indianapolis.

He was born May 2, 1945, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis to Clyde G. and Dorothy L. (Merrick) West. He married Cherl Sue (Silvis) West on April 25, 1964, at Meridian Church of God in Indianapolis; she survives.

He was a 1963 graduate of Southport High School. He was a Vietnam War veteran of the U.S. Navy and served for 10 years. He was a carman for Amtrak in Beech Grove for 15 years. In 1995, he was ordained into the Church of God and served in Charlottesville, Columbus Central Heights Church of God in Columbus and First Church of God in Campbellsville, Ky., having served for 17 years in ministry.

He loved Southern gospel music and was a former member of the Sounds Of Promise gospel group. He served on the board of Central Indiana Camp Meet of the Church Of God.

Survivors include his wife, Cherl Sue (Silvis) West of Franklin; a brother, Paul G. West (Linda) of Indianapolis; two sisters, Peggy J. Weiland (Glen) of Marion and Patricia L. Mundy (Bob) of Indianapolis; paternal and maternal nieces and nephews, Tim Weiland (Sheila) of Marion, Jeff Weiland (Ann Marie) of Knightstown, Alicia Clark (Chris) of Fort Wayne, Becky Meek (Phil) of Marion, Paul West Jr. (Angie) of Knightstown, Cathy Bowser (Steve) of Indianapolis and Scott West of Indianapolis; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and many extended family and friends.

The Revs. Wade Seaborne, Larry McAdams and Todd Wyner will conduct a service at 1 p.m. Saturday at Meridian Church of God, 7800 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 S. Morton St. (U.S. 31 South) in Franklin and from noon until service time Saturday at the church. Burial with full military honors will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Glenns Valley, Greenwood.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to the Columbus Central Heights Church of God, 3150 Sharon Lane, Columbus, IN 47203.
