Lewis Boyd Watkins, 69, of Fairfield Glade in Crossville, Tenn., died peacefully in his sleep at home Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013.
He was born Dec. 24, 1943, to the late Alonzo Harvey and Amelia “Jinks” Watkins. He was a native of Greenwood, a 1962 graduate of Center Grove High School and an alumnus of the University of Indianapolis.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was of the Christian faith.
An avid golfer, he retired to Fairfield Glade in 2005 and was employed by the Fairfield Glade Community Club as pool attendant. In addition to golf, Lew enjoyed bowling, singing karaoke and spending time with friends and family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Bryan Scott Watkins, in 1995; and his wife, Claire Kriese Watkins, in 2005.
He is survived by his brother, Steve (Susie) Watkins of Greenwood; his daughter, Kimberly (Eric) McLaughlin of Portsmouth, Ohio; companion, Carol Demongin of Fairfield Glade; five grandchildren, Justin, Zachery, Molly and Aiden Kammler, all of Portsmouth, Ohio, and Kaila Haboush of Indianapolis; and longtime friends Bill and Celia Whitesitt of Fairfield Glade.
Friends and family may join a celebration of life at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Fairfield Glade Community Club multipurpose room in Fairfield Glade.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lewis’ honor to the American Legion Department of Indiana or the Fairfield Glade Fire Department.
Hood Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
