David Richard Windisch Sr.
 

David Richard Windisch Sr., 65, a lifelong resident of Bargersville, passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at his home.

He was born Jan. 26, 1947, in Indianapolis to Carl and Anita (Bills) Windisch. He married Eleanor (Steffen) Windisch on June 13, 1970; and she survives.

He was a 1965 graduate of Center Grove High School and received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the School of Technology at Purdue University.

He taught industrial arts at Center Grove Middle School for 31 years, retiring in 2003. While at the school, he coached wrestling for 15 years and coached 13 county championships.

He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army 4th Infantry from 1966 to 1968, and he served his duty in Vietnam in 1967 and 1968, stationed in Pleiku.

He was a member of Bargersville First Christian Church.

He enjoyed gardening, tailgating, attending Purdue University football games and working puzzles and playing cards with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor (Steffen) Windisch of Bargersville; a daughter, Julie (TJ) Morris of Reynolds Station, Ky.; a son, David Richard (April) Windisch Jr. of Bargersville; grandchildren, Samantha, MollyAnne and Addison Widmer, Tyler Morris, and Jude and

Desmond Windisch; and two sisters, Bobbie Rayback and Carla Windisch, both of Indianapolis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Andy Windisch, on Oct. 9, 1978.

The Rev. Kenneth Rickett will conduct a service at 11 a.m. Thursday at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 S. Morton St. (U.S. 31) in Franklin, with full military honors. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.

He loved his family and his dogs. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Humane Society of Johnson County, 3827 N. Graham Road Franklin, IN 46131; or the SAWS Ramp Ministry, Bargersville First Christian Church, P.O. Box 15 Bargersville, IN 46106.
