Donald Dwaine Natterstad
Donald Dwaine Natterstad, 87, passed away peacefully Jan. 2, 2013, in Arizona.
He was born on June 1, 1925, in Paxton, Ill., to Orville Joseph Natterstad and Nina Beryl Mullinax. He moved to Indianapolis as a child.
Don graduated from Southport High School in 1943. Immediately upon graduation, he enlisted in the Navy and served proudly aboard the battleship USS Tennessee in the Pacific until February 1946.
Don’s marriage to Anne Shirley Horton occurred on May 5, 1951; and they were blessed to celebrate 59 years together before her passing. He worked as an instrumentation engineer for Detroit Diesel Allison, an aircraft engine division of General Motors, from 1951 to 1980.
After retirement, he was a regular with the breakfast crowd at Hardees for more than 20 years. He also enjoyed many years of entertainment with friends at Walnut Ridge Golf Course, where he scored several holes in one.
Don is survived by a daughter, Tina (Jesse) Galloway; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne, on May 13, 2010; two sons, Stephen, on Feb. 15, 2002, and Brian, on April 4, 2005; and a daughter, Cheryl Glascock, on Nov. 8, 2005.
He will be missed by his family and friends, especially those at Horizon Bay Assisted Living in Chandler, Ariz.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens and Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood. Entombment at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens will follow immediately.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to a veterans organization.
