Charles Robert “Bob” Webster, 78, of Greenwood, passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis.
Bob was born Dec. 13, 1933, to William H. and Nora B. (Riffle) Webster in Logansport. He graduated from Washington Township High School in Cass County in 1953.
His family and friends in and around Logansport remained an important part of his life.
Bob was proud to serve his country in the U.S. Navy as a submariner from 1953 to 1957. Subsequently, he became a member of Greenwood American Legion Post 252, where he was a member of the honor guard and the sub vets. After serving in the Navy, Bob had a long career with Bell Telephone (AT&T) and retired after more than 30 years of service.
Bob was a devout Christian whose faith guided him in every endeavor. His ministers became important friends, shepherding him through life’s challenges.
He was a gregarious man who felt blessed to have many friends. All were entranced by his stories. He was a member of The Pointe Church in Greenwood.
Bob’s wife, Ethelene (Robertson) Webster, and a son, Brian Webster, preceded him in death. Six of Bob’s siblings also preceded him in death: Howard Webster, Winston Webster, Mary Austin, Kathryn Davidson, Ralph Webster and Linda Webster.
He is survived by a son, Timmy; two sisters, Margaret Mathews of Fishers and Dorie McDonald of Indianapolis; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The Revs. Steve Rhoades and Larry Owen will conduct a service at 3 p.m. Saturday at The Pointe Church, 835 W. Worthsville Road, Greenwood, where friends may call from 2 p.m. until service time Saturday. Full military honors will follow the service. Burial will be at a later date at Ever Rest Memorial Park Cemetery in Logansport.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Legion Post 252 Honor Guard, attn: Bob Tuttle, 334 S. U.S. 31, Greenwood, IN 46142; or to The Pointe Church, 4336 Blue Spruce Court, Greenwood, IN 46143.
