Edward James Cody Jr.

Edward James Cody Jr., 76, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, in Franklin. He was a resident of Nineveh and a former resident of Indianapolis.

Ed was born July 14, 1936, to Edward Sr. and Dorothy (Swartz) Cody in Indianapolis.

He was a self-employed shoe salesman.

The most important thing in Ed’s life was his family. Attending the many family gatherings was what he cherished most. Watching his family together as a strong unit made him proud.

He enjoyed most sports, especially golf and auto racing. He had several grandchildren involved in kart racing. He followed their success and told everyone he met, including strangers, how proud he was of their accomplishments.

Ed also came up with some witty comments that always made his kids shake their heads but put a smile on their faces. He will be truly missed by his family.

Survivors include his 10 children, Donna (James) Cooper and Dawn (Mark) Flick, both of Nineveh, Denise (Greg) Malone and Danny (Heather) Cody, both of Brownsburg, Steve (Amanda) Cody of Noblesville, Deann Baker and Dee Dee Agard, both of Franklin, Frank Cody of Florida, Jeff (Pam) Cody of Indianapolis and Eric (Faith) Cody of North Carolina; former wife of 40 years, Tillie Cody; three sisters, Claire Stuckey, Judy Malone and Mary D. Burton; 14 grandchildren, Tiffany Ankney, Molly Hillman, Jimmy Arbuckle, Jessica Yager, Justin Baker, Haley and Zack Agard, Coleton, Mitchell, Allison, Maddison and Abby Cody, Eric Cooper and Heather Arnold; seven great-grandchildren; and special friends, Jim Payton, Ethel Sandler and Jack Sandler.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Cody Sr.; his mother, Dorothy Wall; a brother, Martin Cody; and two sisters, Ricki Jean Payton and Janet Sandler.

A funeral service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, 729 U.S. 31 North. Friends and family may call from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
