Sherrie Jo (McClain) Buchanan

Sherrie Jo (McClain) Buchanan, a resident of Greenwood and a member of the Southland Community Church congregation in Greenwood, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012.

Sherrie was born Aug. 17, 1953, in Lawrenceville, Ill., to Yvonne Marbry McClain and James Robert McClain, both preceding her in death.

Educated at Bridgeport (Ill.) High School and Olney (Ill.) Central College, Sherrie most recently served as a teacher’s assistant for Center Grove Middle School Central for the past 3.5 years.

She also spent time as a segment contributor to the Daily Journal newspaper in Franklin and customer service director for Promex Technologies in Franklin.

Sherrie is survived by her husband, Mark Buchanan, vice president of business development for Amedisys Home Health and Hospice and local tennis pro; her children, Andy Bousley, master sergeant for the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Ellsworth AFB, Rapid City, S.D., and Aaron Bousley, staff sergeant for the U.S. Marines Force Recon, stationed in Camp Lejeune, Wilmington, N.C.; her stepchildren, Brynn Buchanan, senior nursing student at Ball State University, and Culley Buchanan, Indiana State University student, both of Greenwood; her sisters, Sandy Franklin from Olney, Ill. and Cindy Schonert from Mount Carmel, Ill.; her brother, Rob McClain from Olney, Ill.; and eight grandchildren.

Sherrie was known for her work with the Center Grove Education Foundation and her love of discussions of scripture through Bible study classes for adults and teenagers.

She was also an avid biking and workout enthusiast.

Sherrie’s favorite scripture was Philippians 4:6-7: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

Sherrie believed to have friends you had to be a friend, and she made many dear lifelong friendships.
