Barbara Jo Blake, 58, of Glen Burnie, Md., passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, after an eight-year battle with breast cancer.
She was born in Franklin on Dec. 27, 1953, to the late Robert D. and Ruth A. (Graves) Shirley.
She married William E. Blake on Oct. 12, 1973, in Whiteland. He survives in Glen Burnie.
Her son, William Brian Blake, survives in Baltimore. Two brothers, Rob Shirley and Steve Shirley, survive in Indiana, along with a sister, Donna Allman. Another sister, Linda Shirley, survives in Ohio.
After traveling extensively with her husband in the U.S. Navy, Barbara became a Maryland resident in 1982.
As a participant in cancer research studies, her courage and perseverance will some day help find cancer’s cure.
Per Barbara’s request, there will be no services in Maryland. A private family service and interment will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s favorite charity for breast cancer research.
