A southside furniture store is closing after more than 50 years in business.

Gerdt Furniture & Interiors is closing its flagship location on Southport Road. Owner John Gerdt and his wife, Cherie, decided to retire, according to a news release from the company. The store will continue to honor existing orders, warranties and service agreements, the release said.

Gerdt Furniture was founded in 1959 by Edward and Ethelynne Gerdt and is now owned and operated by John Gerdt and his children, David and Carey. The store will have a going-out-of-business sale Friday, the release said.
