A Columbus woman was killed after driving into the back of a semitrailer on Interstate 65.
Indiana State Police identified the woman as 21-year-old Karianne Bjordal. The accident happened around 7 p.m. Thursday north of the Edinburgh exit in the northbound lanes.
Aldo Perez, 51, of Loxahatchee, Florida, was driving the semi north on I-65 in the right lane, police said. Bjordal also was headed north in a 1994 BMW and ran into the rear of the trailer, police said.
There was no evidence that the BMW had slowed down and there were no skid marks, police said. Perez was not injured. A dog in Bjordal’s car survived the crash and was released to an acquaintance, police said.
According to witness statements, excessive speed and driver inattention were contributing factors in the crash, police said.
Both northbound lanes of I-65 reopened around 9:30 p.m. Thursday.
