A knee injury cost Scott Gill his sophomore football season at Whiteland Community High School.
He spent that fall undergoing strenuous and often monotonous rehabilitation so that his right knee and its replaced anterior cruciate ligament would become strong and mobile again.
Gill got goose bumps as he stood, with the help of crutches, on the sideline cheering on his teammates and soaking in the atmosphere of football Friday nights. He looked forward to the next season, when he would be out on the field, too.
And then he had to do it all over again.
