A driver for an Edinburgh company was injured after his truck struck an overpass and rolled over on Interstate 65, south of Franklin.
Mark Hines of North Vernon was listed in good condition at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital following the accident Monday morning that closed northbound lanes of I-65 for about three hours. He was driving a truck registered to Case Construction in Edinburgh.
Hines was driving a dump truck pulling a 60-foot trailer when, just before 7 a.m., the top of the truck struck the overpass at Greensburg Road, about 2 miles south of the Franklin exit. The truck rolled at least one time and blocked both northbound lanes, Indiana State Police Senior Trooper Hank Kalina said. The trailer was empty and no other vehicles were involved.
Hines was able to get out of the vehicle and was taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital for a head injury, Kalina said. He was later transferred to IU Health Methodist Hospital.
Police were unsure whether the bed of the truck began to raise or if it was not properly secured, since Hines was able to clear other overpasses prior to Greensburg Road. The overpass was damaged in the accident but was inspected and remains open.
