Travel film series proceeds benefit local projects, school

The Kiwanis Club of Greenwood and Southport Lions Club continue their annual Travel & Adventure Film series fundraiser this month with a documentary about the Golden Gate city, San Francisco.

“The Heart of San Francisco” will be shown at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 at Greenwood Community High School, 615 W. Smith Valley Road.

Although many are familiar with the bay area’s picturesque Postcard Row and historic Alcatraz island, the film also will show the history of the city, including the 1906 earthquake that wiped out most of the downtown buildings.

Other areas of the city shown in the film include Chinatown, Victorian homes, Golden Gate Park, Japantown, sailboat races and Fisherman’s Wharf and other historical and cultural attractions.

Tickets are $5 each.

Proceeds will benefit local projects, school and community service in the Greenwood, Center Grove, Southport and Whiteland areas.

Information: 881-4059

Upcoming films in the series include “Jesus in Egypt; The Greatest Untold Story,” March 20; and “Discovering the Dutch,” April 24. Both will be shown at the high school.
