Trapping city coyotes cost-effective solution

To the editor:

I am surprised by the Greenwood City Council and how they are trying to solve their coyote problem.

Their suggestion to impose regulations on the feeding of wildlife to control coyotes is laughable –- like using a shotgun to kill flies. That’s almost as bad an idea as giving vasectomies to male coyotes, as someone suggested.

The coyote problem is most likely caused by one coyote family that can be taken care of by trapping. There are many skilled and knowledgeable trappers around that would be happy to thin out this coyote problem. Some would even do it for free -– coyote pelts can bring $10 to $20 on the market.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says over 5,000 coyotes were harvested in each of the last two years in Indiana, proof that coyotes can be controlled when using the proper resources.
