A Trafalgar man crashed his pickup truck into a tree, got out of the mangled vehicle without injuries and was arrested on a charge of operating while intoxicated.
Shawn E. Dugger, 23, wrecked the truck about 2:45 p.m. Monday on State Road 44 near Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin, according to a police report.
The accident was serious, with the bed of the truck essentially bending in half, Johnson County Sheriff Doug Cox said.
“I have no idea how he walked away from that one,” he said. “I just think some people are lucky.”
Dugger declined medical treatment and didn’t have visibly serious injuries, Cox said.
Dugger told police he had been drinking whiskey and didn’t know how much he’d had, according to a police report. A breath test showed his blood-alcohol content was 0.22 percent, or nearly three times the legal limit for driving.
Dugger, 100 S. Moore St., was taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was being held on $1,000 bond.
