Top county athletes offer solid examples

Each spring, the athletics directors at the county’s public high schools nominate students for the annual athlete of the year and sportsmanship awards.

Choosing the award recipients from among these nominees is difficult. All are accomplished athletes, talented students in the classroom and good examples for their peers. So the award truly is a best-of-the-best situation.

This year’s female athlete-of-the-year nominees were Emma Schoettmer, Center Grove; Ashley Myers, Edinburgh; Kailey Evans, Greenwood; Abigail Smith, Franklin; Katie Wise, Indian Creek; and Karley Beam, Whiteland.

The male nominees were Sean Mappes, Center Grove; Kyle Wuest, Edinburgh; Connor Morris, Greenwood; Alex Grissom, Franklin; Isaac Jackson, Indian Creek; and Jake Meador, Whiteland.
