Conference: Metropolitan Interscholastic

Outlook: Meeting for the first time as MIC rivals, the teams clashed in last year’s Class 5A semistate — which visiting Lawrence Central won 28-15 en route to the state championship.

For Center Grove, tonight is its first outing of the season with the No. 1 ranking. The Trojans ascended from No. 2 following the Bears’ loss last week against No. 5 Carmel.

More importantly for the Trojans, the game is an opportunity to take another step forward in the race for the MIC title. They are the only unbeaten team in league play.

Directions: Take Interstate 65 north to I-465 north to 56th Street exit. Go east on 56th Street. School is on the left.

Class 5A No. 7 Whiteland at Class 4A No. 9

New Palestine, 7:30 p.m.

Whiteland Warriors (3-1)

Head coach: Darrin Fisher, ninth season at Whiteland (60-36), 23rd overall (121-108)

Outlook: Whiteland has won two of the past three against New Palestine, including a 26-20 triumph last season.

Both teams feature explosive offenses. Whiteland averages 34 points per game, while the Dragons average 49.

Defensively, however, New Palestine gives up only 7.8 points per game, while Whiteland yields 41.5.

Directions: Take I-465 east to Shadeland Avenue north. Take Shadeland Avenue north to U.S. 52 (Brookville Road) and go east to New Palestine. Look for sign pointing to high school on right.

Franklin at Class 5A

No. 6 Martinsville, 7 p.m.

Franklin Grizzly Cubs (3-1)

Outlook: Coming off their first losses of the season, both teams look to stay in the hunt for the conference championship.

Martinsville, which averages 45 points per game, has beaten the Grizzly Cubs eight straight times.

Franklin averages 37 points per game.

Directions: Take State Road 37 to State Road 252 west into Martinsville. Go into town and turn left on John Wooden Drive, which goes to the high school.

Outlook: Coming off a lopsided win against conference rival Mooresville, the Woodmen look to build momentum for the second half of the season.

Plainfield, meanwhile, had a three-game winning streak snapped with its lopsided loss at Class 4A No. 8 Roncalli.

Directions: Take Interstate 65 north to I-465 west to I-70 west to Plainfield exit, which is State Road 267. Go north on State Road 267 to first stop light, which is Hadley Road. Take a left onto Hadley, and the school is at the first stoplight to the right.

Indian Creek at

Brown County, 7 p.m.

Outlook: Having evened its record with last week’s win against visiting Providence, Indian Creek looks for its 10th straight victory against Brown County.

The Eagles, however, are off

to one of their best starts in recent seasons. Their most recent win against the Braves was in 2003.

Directions: Take State Road 135/252 west to Morgantown and then follow State Road 135 south through Nashville. The school is on the left just before you get to the traffic signal at State Road 46.

Edinburgh at Tindley (game will be played at Arlington High School),

Edinburgh Lancers (2-2)

Head coach: Bill Unsworth, fourth season (8-24)

Outlook: Lancers look to get

back above .500 against an

opponent they beat 49-12 last season.

Moreover, Edinburgh looks for its first win since coach Bill Unsworth returned to the sideline last week from neck surgery. Unsworth missed the first three games while recovering.

Directions: Take Interstate 65 north to I-465 east. Take the 56th Street exit, go west about 1¼ miles and turn left on Arlington Avenue. The school is about

4 blocks on the left.

Class 4A No. 8 Roncalli at Class 2A No. 2 Scecina (game will played at the

University of Indianapolis),

Outlook: Rebels are coming off an impressive win against previously unbeaten Class 4A power Plainfield.

In parochial rival Scecina, Roncalli meets one of the top teams in Class 2A. The Crusaders are tied with Ritter for the No. 2 ranking.

Roncalli has won four straight against the Crusaders.
