Suspicious card leads to woman’s arrest

Follow Daily Journal:

A Franklin woman was arrested after police said she attempted to mail drugs to an inmate at the Johnson County jail.

Samantha Ann Wright, 22, of 120 14th St., Franklin, was arrested on charges of trafficking with an inmate and probation revocation.

Earlier this month, a jail worker sorting mail found a Christmas card that was bulging. White powder was found in the card after it was opened, a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report said.

Wright was arrested after jail employees checked phone records to see if she had been talking with any jail inmates, the report said.

The sheriff’s office is investigating whether any inmates also should face criminal charges and is waiting for final test results on the powder, Sheriff Doug Cox said.

Wright was arrested and taken to the jail, where she was being held on $2,500 bond.
