Walk into a hotel lobby in Greenwood and you’ll see NFL jersey-clad fans, TV news crews from out of state and corporate executives from all over the world.

Try getting a room around here this Super Bowl weekend and you’ll be told that you should have called a year ago or will have to pay up to a $1,000 per night.

Local hotels are filled with football fans and corporate executives from Fortune 500 companies such as Sprint. Blocks of rooms have been reserved by businesspeople from as far away as Sweden.

Nearly all of the rooms in the 12 Johnson County chain hotels were reserved, with only a handful available. Hotels reported bringing in as much as 400 percent more income than they would in a typical February week, largely because the high demand allowed them to charge higher rates.
