A sprinkler head went off at the Greenwood Police Department on Tuesday, causing minor water damage in the lobby and city court office.
The sprinkler head broke in the building vestibule about 2:45 p.m., spraying water onto the interior doors and windows at the police department, Sgt. Doug Roller said. Water sprayed onto some furniture in the tiled waiting area and also soaked into the carpet of the city court office, he said.
Police officers were able to turn off the water before the entryway flooded, Roller said.
Greenwood firefighters were called to inspect the sprinkler system after it went off.
Cold temperatures likely caused the sprinkler to malfunction, since it sits in the room between the exterior and interior doors of the building, Roller said.
