Shelby County man gets up to 4 years in prison

A man who shot and killed a teenager playing paintball on his property has pleaded guilty to a felony charge of criminal recklessness and will serve time in prison.

Shelby County resident Jason Bagley, 42, will serve no more than four years in prison as the result of a plea agreement, Shelby County Prosecutor Kent Apsley said.

Investigators said Bagley shot and killed Brandon J. Spangler, a 17-year-old from Michigan, in late 2011. Spangler had been preparing to play paintball on a wooded part of Bagley’s property in rural Shelby County with three siblings and his father, Greenwood resident Mark Spangler.
