A rural Franklin workshop was burglarized after thieves may have tried to keep a dog on the property out of the way with a ham bone.
A chainsaw, gun, copper wiring, tools and $500 in cash were stolen from a workshop located on a farm in the 1000 block of North County Road 100E, just outside of Franklin, according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
The thieves broke the locks off the gate to the property, which was open when the owner arrived Tuesday morning, the report said.
The business had a dog that lived on the platform of the shop, but it was missing. The owner found a ham bone in the area where the dog typically sleeps. Blood was also found in the area that may have been from the dog, the report said.
