The Franklin College men’s basketball team lost on the road to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 72-63 on Wednesday evening.
The Grizzlies fall to 8-7 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and 13-9 overall. Rose-Hulman continues to lead the conference at 14-1 and 20-2 overall.
Rose-Hulman started out the first half strong and the Grizzlies struggled to keep up. The Engineers led 37-20 going into halftime. The Grizzlies tried to make a comeback in the second half, but the Engineers were always quick to answer.
Senior forward Gunner Erwin led Franklin with 19 points and five rebounds. Sophomore guard Patrick Ellis came off the bench to contribute 15 points to the Grizzlies’ effort. Freshman forward Dion Smith led the team in rebounding with 12.
Senior guard Austin Weatherford was the top scorer for the Engineers with 21 points.
The Grizzlies return home Saturday to take on Anderson University at 3 p.m. in the Spurlock Center gym.
