Construction crews will tear out and replace a railroad crossing in Bargersville next week, so drivers will need to make a short detour around the area.
County Road 144 will be closed at the railroad tracks for about five days starting Monday. Workers will tear out the rails and ties and replace the stone underneath the tracks, then resurface the crossing, Alltrack Inc. general manager Bob Eubanks said.
Local traffic can get around the closure by using North Main Street and Harriman Avenue. Trucks should use Whiteland Road and State Road 135 to get around the construction.
The Indiana Rail Road Co. is working on a systemwide upgrade of its lines heading south out of Indianapolis, Eubanks said. The rail line that runs through Bargersville heads southwest through Morgantown and later connects with other tracks serving Bloomington and Terre Haute, according to company track maps.
