An Indianapolis man was arrested after a police chase involving a stolen vehicle, police said.
Terry Richard Dye Jr., 19, 2956 S. Lyons Drive, was arrested on charges of auto theft, resisting law enforcement, driving while suspended and criminal mischief.
Police were called about 6:40 p.m. Wednesday about a truck that was stolen from a parking lot along County Line Road and was heading south on Interstate 65. A few minutes later, a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office deputy saw a man driving the truck in Whiteland, preparing to get back on I-65, this time heading north, a sheriff’s office report said.
The deputy and Greenwood police tried to stop the driver near the Main Street exit in Greenwood, but he started driving faster. He exited onto Main Street and drove east, running through stop signs and red lights, before driving east of the city and cutting through fields. The driver eventually got his truck stuck in the 1600 block of Collins Road, north of Worthsville Road, and then ran from officers, the report said.
One of the officers caught Dye, and he was arrested, the report said.
The farmer of one of the two fields that were driven through said the motorist caused at least $1,000 worth of damage to the crops, the report said.
Dye was taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was being held without bond because of a warrant in Marion County.
