Police lodge begins annual fundraising push

Follow Daily Journal:

Police want to make sure local children in need have school supplies and presents for the holidays and are again launching their annual fundraising effort.

The Johnson County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 154 is collecting donations for its annual programs, which include the Spring Back to School and Shop with a Cop. The organization also supports other causes, such as Johnson County Special Olympics, youth sports and scouting and other service groups.

In the past seven years, the Shop with a Cop program has given about $70,000 in gifts to 325 children, while the back-to-school program gives children backpacks and other school supplies.

The organization includes members of local police departments, the sheriff’s office and state law enforcement agencies. The Johnson County lodge also recently purchased and moved into its own building at 1300 Graham Road, Franklin. The building will give officers a place to meet and can be used to collect items or run future programs, president Randy Werden said.

Anyone interested in donating or with questions can contact the lodge by calling 739-0336.
