Investigators might not know for days what caused the death of a man who was discovered inside a car, but they say the death was not a homicide.
The body of Dustin Kimbrell, 29, Muncie, was discovered about 9 p.m. Tuesday inside a car in a parking lot at 125 Airport Parkway in Greenwood.
Investigators did not have a cause of death as of Wednesday night and were waiting on the results of toxicology tests, but the death no longer was being investigated as a homicide, Johnson County Coroner Craig Lutz said.
Greenwood police and the Johnson County coroner initially investigated the death as a homicide, Greenwood Police Department Assistant Chief Matthew Fillenwarth said.
An autopsy was conducted Wednesday afternoon to determine the cause of death. Police are investigating what happened and have found no signs of foul play, Fillenwarth said.
A friend of the man found him in a car parked at an office building on Airport Parkway, which is just off of Main Street, Fillenwarth said.
Detectives got a warrant so they could search the car and were tracking down the man’s last activities as well as who he was with. They also were trying to find out if the man had any medical conditions, Fillenwarth said.
“There’s tons of background stuff to do,” he said.
